Film director and screenwriter. Her first movie theatre feature “Provincial Actors” (1978) is a flagship film for the “cinema of moral anxiety,” and was awarded FIPRESCI in Cannes in 1980. She created numerous films in international co-productions, including “Europa, Europa” (1990) – Academy Award nomination for the best screenplay. She also received Academy Award nominations in 1985 and 2012 (best foreign language film) for “Angry Harvest” and “In Darkness.” She formatted and produced episodes for a few big TV series in the USA (including “The Wire,” “Treme,” “The Killing,” “House of Cards”). She is one of the directors of Netflix’s first Polish series - “1983.” Her most recent film “Charlatan,” which premiered at the 70th International Film Festival in Berlin, will be in Polish cinemas in the fall of 2020.
